Metro-North Train Time App Reviews

50 add

Schedules are wrong.

The app hasnt been updated since 2015 but the train schedules apparently have been making this app unreliable.

Problems!!!

Trying to get a schedule for a train, and it never comes up, it always goes to the next day schedule, but not todays schedule!!!

Crashes all the time

When it works its awesome but the app crashes too often where it just doesnt load the schedule. Please fix that!!

A poor start

Not accurate and difficult to navigate. Stick with Coocoo and OnTime. Why would we expect a good app considering how they run the RR?

Doesnt work

The site cannot provide consistent train or track information.

Horrific

After reading some of the reviews, I thought: "how bad could this app be..." First off, Id like to thank the MTA for continually raising the fares to the point that driving (even with gas at $2-4 a gallon) is actually cheaper than taking mass transit. Secondly, and this is another thank you to the MTA: thank you for 20+ years of "upgrades" only to have equipment fail on a near daily basis. Thirdly, and on point: its not as unbelievable as it may seem that the MTA failed at creating an app that: 1) is constantly updated to make it better and improve its quality. 2) Is slower than the A train at peak hours (*side bar: why is the local E train faster than the express A?) 3) I look forward to the next fare hike only to receive less than mediocre service both on the train and with this terrible app. Congratulations, MTA.

A barely-working prototype

The transit authority has made some real changes to the system over the last few years. This app is not one of them, at least not yet. Its as if someone created a mock-up of what a train time app should look like, but never finished it before releasing it to the public. Train times are available, but only in a short window, and even then, inaccurate. The A-Z search bar is not a search bar, but simply a picture meant to look like something that works. You also cannot search past trains to figure out, say, what time the train youre on is slated to arrive. Until this mess is fixed, just continue using their website for train times.

Just one small issue

Im very pleased with the App, however Ive been having trouble to save my favorite trips since the "SAVE" button seems to be disabled... Please fix!!

Update

Added some nice ability to sort trips. Basic, but much worth.

Cant save favorite trips

Latest update broke the ability to favorite trips. There should also be an "offline" mode for when connectivity is down (perhaps with a warning for when schedules were last updated).

Do NOT install this update

The most recent update of March 31 is riddled with bugs. Attempting to reorder saved routes actually deletes them, and trying to re-save the existing routes is impossible as the "Save" button is disabled. Seriously, do you guys have a QA team? Was this tested at all?

Cant save favorite trips

Horrible update that made the app worse and almost useless for me.

Not pleased

I am not a fan of this update. I cannot save new trips to my favorites. Please fix!

Why bother?

Why bother with an update you dont test? Can you save more that 4 favorites? Nope. Why bother issuing a monthly on time stat when there is a -6 minute adjustment?

Consistent

Consistency is important and Metro-North has created an app that is exactly on par with their terrible rail service.

No more auto-refresh?

Ive been using this app since it came out, but the Apr 4, 2015, update removed auto-refresh for some unknown reason. Everybody knows that looking up the train status at your own station is fruitless, because if a train is late, MNR doesnt make that notice until its already five minutes late. I couldnt care less by that point; Im already standing at the platform by then. Instead, I used to pull up the status for the station before mine, and could sit in my car (or home if youre close enough) and wait until the status there changed to Departed. It was nearly perfect, because that left the right amount of time to walk up to the platform regardless of how late (or on time) the train was. But now, without auto-refresh, Im left hitting the refresh button over and over repeatedly until the status changes. I get that this is pretty petty, but seriously, the app used to do it, why have you taken functionality away from an otherwise useful app?

Useful

This app is reliable, gives me all necessary information on trains, and tells me service alerts.

Good app but missing something!

It doesnt have west of the Hudson River (Port Jervis Line) to Penn Station in the app. That is a major rail line for the Metro-North Rail! Till it gets that added, I have to give two stars.

Suggestion for improvement

There should be an option to easily email or text someone specific train info so I can get picked up at my station. Would make this app better.

Very clean and very simple

•Developers did a good job making the material design of this app match the clean interface of iOS8. •This app looks good to the eye, and is easily navigational. •Nice "favorites" feature, for frequent schedules
